Sonic Care - Concept of electric toothbrush

ABSTRACT

Sonic Care is the concept of an electric toothbrush that is easier to charge and more hygienic to use.


 
 

TARGET GROUP

Electric toothbrushes are closely linked to each member of the family. In addition to basic cleaning functions, electric toothbrushes must be more hygienic, safe and convenient to meet the needs of each family member.

PROBLEM

Hygiene is a problem for electric toothbrushes. The bathroom is the wettest place in the house. The brush head is directly in the humid air, which allows bacteria to grow and many people often forget to clean or change their brush heads regularly.

By observing bathrooms in different households and researching existing brands, it was also found that there were many problems with the charging. The existing vertical charging method makes daily use difficult.

 

GOAL

The task of the project is to find a hygienic use, easier charging and more convenient placement of the toothbrush.

PROCESS

After making various models, I had an idea: The charging coil is placed in the front of the brush handle and the brush handle can sit close to the wireless charging area. The brush head will be hardly exposed to the air because of the outward-facing rear side. There is a recess in the center of the charging station. This allows the toothbrush to be combined with the charging station to form one body.

 

FINAL DESIGN

The final design consists of two components: A toothbrush and a charging station. The charging station can be placed anywhere on the wall.

The charging station and the toothbrush contain magnets. This allows both components to be connected. Also, the toothbrush can be charged or sterilized with UV light.

There is also a connector that can connect two charging stations with each other. With this connector, the electricity can flow from one charging station to another, so that another toothbrush can also be charged and disinfected at the same time. This prevents the situation where the sockets are insufficient when charging the toothbrush.

Additionally I have developed a Application. The users can easily control the disinfection and record their daily tooth brushing.

 

CONCLUSION

By researching the usage environment, the target group and the existing products, I defined the problems of using the electric toothbrush and solved these problems in the following aspects:

  • Changing the vertical charging of existing electric toothbrushes.

  • Preventing the situation when there are not enough sockets for charging.

  • Solving the problem that toothbrushes are susceptible to bacteria.
