ABSTRACT

K1M0 is a cross-thematic collection of workshop kits for introducing basic knowledge of Artificial Intelligence in schools. K1M0 includes an iPad Application and digital learning materials.

GOAL

The influence of artificial intelligence will become more and more important in the future, considering how fast the world is changing - it will also have an impact on students. We believe that AI should be taught at a younger age to create basic knowledge so that students can lead and shape their lives in a self-determined way in the future. To achieve this goal, we need to create an understanding of the impact of AI by teaching relevant content in school education.

IDEATION

According to the interview with Thomas Weigand, a teacher at the Amorbachschule in Neckarsulm and taking into account the current school system, we noticed that AI knowledge cannot be taught in individual lessons, but rather by integrating it into the corresponding subjects. Furthermore, to explain such complex technology as AI, this topic must be taught in a comprehensible and easily accessible way.

TEST

The first idea was to create an AI lesson. With the help of Thomas Weigand, we were able to give a lesson to the students of the 8th grade. we built an accompanying application for this lesson. And the goal is to get feedback on the first application from the students. We also want to find out how the students react to the new learning format of the AI workshop and to what they have already known artificial intelligence.

During testing, we have found out that the students were interested in AI and were able to navigate through the application with confidence. Teachers were asked to bring simple examples to the students. Through these examples, students can quickly gain an understanding of the topic.

FINAL PRODUCT

K1M0 is a workshop kit that offers a variety of workshop exercises related to the corresponding subjects. Students can get the basic knowledge about AI and learn it in the corresponding subject. The application serves as a support for the teacher and the students. The teacher gets new tasks about his subject and the students can also get exercises on the iPad both in and beside the workshop.

In the overview of the subjects, you can find individual topics for each subject. The teacher selects a topic and can release the next task for the students. Under the plus sign, there are more materials on the subject and can be added additionally.
